Long time no news: 1st month in Obertauern!

Hey everyone,

Soooo, it’s been a while!! Loads has happened in the past couple of weeks so here’s another update to make some of you a little more jealous;)

It’s been over a month since I passed my Anwärter in Kaprun, an experience not soon to forget! While in Vienna we were all a bit nervous for the course and more scared than excited. Completely unnecessary it turned out!

Noor and I were placed together and were surprisingly the babies of the group, when most of our group members were between 22 and 26 years old. Together with our cute Ausbilder Peter we played warm up games that reminded me of elementary school and found out that even when skiing with our skis like a “pizza slice” those Austrian ausbilders would find things to criticize on. While learning what exercises to do with real kiddos on the piste, Noor and I were secretly crushing on the cute 22 year old ausbilder from the group practicing beside us who turned out to work in Obertauern as well! (Benji if you’re reading this, we’ll chat at après ski tomorrow).

Long story short, Kaprun turned out to be wayyy more fun than expected, and was brought to a great ending by passing all 3 parts of the Anwärter! On the same day of the results we took a taxi to Obertauern to start our next adventure.

Once we got there our boss no longer picked up the phone and the ski school was closed. So there we were…3 lost ski instructors in the middle of the road with shit loads of stuff and no place to stay. When we went into one of the hotels explaining we were the new ski instructors for the season and Casper used all his charms on the girl by the reception, the 3 of us (Noor, Casper and I) enjoyed the BEST night in a 4 star hotel. Lets just say our introduction to our actual place for these 5 months the next day wasn’t the most enjoyable moment of our career. Noor and I take our daily camping trip to the sportcentre at the end of our street to take an actual warm shower, as us girls tend to need a certain amount of water to come from the shower head to be able to wash our hair (nothing like the shower in our appartment as you can guess). I think everyone doing actual sports in the sportscentre can also tell when we have arrived, as we tend to give them free entertainment with our karaoke concerts while showering ;)

The first month of work in Obertauern has also passed by now, and loads of après skiing has been done. Getting those little ones on skies for the first time on Sunday and racing down blue and red runs on Friday have resulted in some very proud moments. There seems to be someone trying to make skiing a bit more difficult for me however, as my skies have already been stolen once and my poles 3 times. Thankfully poles are unnecessarily when teaching 5 year olds to ski like and airplane;)

Christmas was one of the most memorable once so far, as I got to spend it with my real family as well as my ski family in snowy Obertauern! Thanks Mum, Dad, Floris and Soof for visiting me here and see you soon<3 I hope everyone else had a good Chrismas and a happy 2017.

Until the next update,

xx
