Wien!

Grüß Gott!

Give me another couple of weeks and I'll be speaking some decent german while hopefully getting some kiddos on skis in Obertauern!

We're currently on our way to Kaprun after 12 amazing days in Vienna. It's waaay too early (6:30am), but after a stressful morning we got all of our bags and ourselves on the train. Currently using the train's wifi to update the blog!

My time in Vienna together with our little ski fam (Noor, Fleur, Sanne, Britt, Daphne, mama Inge, Ralph, Marnix and Petur) has been amazing! From sightseeing to netflix to christmas markets and card games, we've done it all.

During the week we had german class every morning from 9-12:30 from the most adorable old lady who was half deaf, which made it a bit more challenging at times. In the afternoon we went out to explore the city and have some fun.

On Monday we went to see Schloss Schönbrunn, also known as the palace of Sissi. We walked through the museum and gardens, both equally beautiful. The day after we went to the Wien museum and enjoyed some of the MANY Christmas markets in Vienna.

We did a good job on cooking dinner most nights, but couldn't resist the soup in bread bowls on the Rathaus platz christmas market.

We also went to see the Karls Kirche, in which they had built a panorama lift and stairs that took us to the top of the church. These stairs were incredibly wobbly and scary, but the view was beautiful. After this somewhat scary activity, Fleur, Sanne, Noor and I decided to do the grocery shopping for that night and head home. That sounds easier than it was, considering it took us a total of 2 hours to find our way back home because we figured the tram would "probably just come back around and make another loop". Big mistake. We did however do

a sort of "hop on, hop off" bus tour during that night, even though i hope the actually bus tours take you somewhere else.

During our one weekend in Vienna we went to the Natural Historic Museum and had some bratwurst for lunch. We also went to see Austria's National Library, which felt a bit like walking through Hogwarts, and had some drinks that night to celebrate the weekend.

Sunday morning we had breakfast at Hotel Sacher, with a traditional sacher torte and some coffee/hot chocolate. It was fun to experience having coffee in such a beautiful and luxurious hotel! Meanwhile it was getting colder in Vienna and so the scarfs and gloves were being taken out of the suitcases and the whining started. This did however make the afternoon hot chocolate breaks even more pleasurable.

On Monday we started class again and went to see the United Nations headquarter, where we got a private tour after passing through airport-like security. On Tuesday we also got a tour through Vienna's house of parliament, which is basically a museum (just like all of the city!). On wednesday we had asked to move our german classes to the afternoon, so that we could go and see the horse training at the Spanische Hofreit Schule. It was fun to see the young horses being trained, while we were also fascinated by one of the riders' eyebrows:)

The day after we were all given our german certificate, while the afternoon was used mostly to try and fit all our stuff back into our suitcases and backpacks just like it had fit on the way here. We had some pizza and stressfully tried to get some taxis to pick us up at 5:30am the next morning. Last minute we also managed to break Sanne's bed, which we very smartly decided to be honest about. Some last minute stress never hurst.

Thankfully we are now all on the train getting ready for our Anwärter in Kaprun. I think i speak for all of us when I say that we're a bit nervous and not necessarily excited for the upcoming 2 weeks, but I'm positive we'll make it through!

Xx
